Tips For Getting Approved - Credit Card Tactics

You may have heard horror stories wherein your friends have tried to apply for credit card but they came out of the endeavor empty handed. Are there some tried tricks and tips for getting approved on credit card applications?

Below are some known tips for getting approved on your credit card applications, whether this is your first time to apply or this is your nth time of application.

  1. Make sure you completely fill out your application form. Most people fail to realize but all fields in the application form are necessary in processing your application however mundane they might seem to you. The more blanks you leave unanswered, the more likely your application will not get approved.
  2. Make sure you are also HONEST in filling out the application form. No point in lying about your earnings as the card¡¯s credit investigators will eventually know the truth.
  3. Aside from filling out the application from completely, be sure to submit all supporting documentation needed, be it your paycheck summaries, bank statements or proof of identification. These are also needed in approving your credit card application.
  4. Check the annual earnings eligible for that credit card. Some cards, especially the platinum type ones, are for those people that earn six digit minimum gross annual earnings so make sure you apply to cards that are well within your annual earnings league.
  5. Make sure you have an existing credit history as this is usually the reason why first time credit card applicants get a rather unfavorable response. If you do not have any credit history, look for banks that offer secured credit cards that do not require existing credit histories. These secured cards will offer a "secured line of credit" with you having to deposit the amount of credit limit that they will be offering. Then in a year or so of being in good standing with them, you get to have a ¡°real¡± credit card with them.
  6. Do not apply to more than 2 credit card issuing companies as this may look like you are desperate for credit, having 5 or more credit card applications standing may have a negative impact on your credit rating.
These are the basic tips for getting approved on your credit card application. An important thing to note when you are applying for a credit card is to only avail of cards from reputable sources. Especially if you are about to apply online. A danger of applying online from less established places is that they may use the information for ill-purposes.

Also, if this is your first credit card, do not go shopping crazy and wore out that little plastic of yours, spending beyond your means. Make sure you only spend what you can afford to pay back in a month's time (or a month and a half's time depending on the type of credit card you have). Paying late or having a huge outstanding balance that you roll over month after month will give a bad impact on your credit rating that may give you a hard time in the future when you are looking for house financing or business credit.
